Though conceptual in its approach, my design of a calendar revisits the conventional Gregorian calendar, or otherwise put, the Western calendar. Instead of the week beginning on Sunday and ending on Saturday, Monday becomes the start of the week and it ends with Sunday as it relates to being the weekend. Abstract photographs create the mood and tone of the season’s overall weather. Light oranges and yellow for summer, cool blues with touches of sepia and brown for winter. The days are not numbered but rather embossed to create a connection with the viewer. Some will call them poor, under-served, or unlucky. SF Cameraworks calls them integral components in part of one of the Bay Area’s finest and most rewarding non-profit mentoring programs. The program meets once a week: where mentor meets young artists, where learning and fundamental aspects are taught and learned. The responsibilty of branding a non-profit organization that lived under the look of their parent company, SF Cameraworks, was a very enriching experience, not only in the approach and in the design but also in the gain of understanding how non-profit organizations function. What was sought after was an identity and a branding package that could entice further sponsorship and overall attraction to the program by different people and organizations. The outcome was a brand and mark that reflected the core of the program, photography. Collaborative project designed alongside Timothy McSweeney and Binh Hoang. The task was simple, create the identities that coincide with what values those ubiquitous household items carried, then, create the packaging that would attract customers and make the connection to the overall brand and Marco Polo experience.
